After successfully completing B.Sc. Tech (3years) from IIT, Kharagpur, Shantanu joined the M.Tech course in Applied Geo Sciences there in1957, and in the same year he got a chance to join State Directorate of Mining & Geology, Govt. of Odisha, as a Geologist at Bhubaneswar. During his service career he held many prestigious posts under Govt. of Odisha. Despite his busy schedule as a Government Officer, he has never withdrawn from his passion i.e. music. In the year 1994, he retired as Director, Mining & Geology Department of Government of Odisha. For his life long contribution to the “Geo Sciences”, he was awarded “Lifetime Achievement Award” by SGAT (Society for Geoscientists and Allied Technology) in the year 2008 and also as “Distinguished Alumnus Award” for 2008 from his Own Alma Mates, IIT, Kharagpur.
