Akshaya Mohanty died on 17th November, 2002 due to a heart attack in Cuttack. The name Akshaya means the one who never decays. And Yes! He has justified his name in all dimensions. Akshaya has not only been immortalized by his songs, but also by his talents as an Actor, Composer, Director, Writer, Poet and above all a trendsetter.
Akshaya always wanted to sing till the last moment of his life, that’s why he aptly sung a lyric of Mr. Sirshananda Kanungo:

It was 1st August, 1955 he sang for the first time in All India Radio.That was the age of ‘live broadcasting’, he sang a song as “Madhu Sanjare Bhramara…”.The then Music director Sri Bhubaneswari Mishra highly appreciated him and from that day he moved forward and sang as if, “ + + Jhil Mil Jhil Mil Rate / Chik Mik Jyostna Sathe / Duniya Ku Kahi jibi Muje / Jin Thiba Jae Gauthibi, Gauthiba Jaae Jin Thibi”. In the twinkling night/ with the silvery moon light/ I will say to this world / that I will sing till there is the life, and when the life is there/ and I will live till I am in singing).
Actually he was the crownless king in the field of Oriya Music World.
